7. Cihelna v Bažantnici (Claypit in the Pheasantry) Natural Monument (PP) |
|
The former claypit in Hloubětín beyond the railway bridge. Cadastre: Hloubětín.
Area: 4.38 ha. Elevation: 238-270 m above sea level. Established by the
Ordinance of Prague Municipality No. 5/1988 of July 4, 1988.
Geological stratptype, exposure of Cenomanian claystones with rich fossil flora.
One of the most important exposures of the Peruc and Koryčany formation
of the Bohemian Cretaceous with fossilized prints of plants of Drynaria
tumulosa, Nehvizdya obtusa, Myricanthium amentaceum and Myrtophyllum genitzii
species. No soil cover has developed.
Plant communities are mostly of ruderal character: white melilot (Melilotus
albus), common melilot (Melilotus officinalis), mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris).
However, there are also rarer species, such as the large-flowered mullein
(Verbascum thapsiforme). The tree level bordering the margins is dominated
by the silver birch, accompanied by the common oak, the hornbeam, the sycamore,
and false acacia. The shrub level is represented by dense elder undergrowth.

Beetles are represented by the Bembidion milleri, Ophomus puncticolis
and Amara pulpani species, the butterflies by the meadow brown (Maniola
jurtina). The grass snake has been observed. The area is a nesting site
of black redstart (Pheonicurus ochruros), in the past also of the little
owl (Athene noctua). Minor mammals are represented by the white-toothed
shrew (Crocidura russula).
It is necessary to maintain the geological profile accessible for observation
and research.
